Gutter guards for oaks and pines
Guards matched to the trees over your roof — oak leaves, pine needles, pollen — on gutters and downspouts sized for Florida storms. Priced on inspection.
Free yard inspection within 48 hours · written price before we dig
Gutter guards keep leaves and needles out of the trough so the gutter can carry a Florida storm instead of overflowing at the first clog. Under the oaks and pines of Northeast Florida they can save a lot of ladder work — but they only help if the gutter under them is big enough, has enough downspouts and sends the water somewhere other than the foundation. We fit guards as part of that system, matched to the trees over your roof, and price them on the inspection.
Signs you need it
- gutters full of oak leaves every winter
- pine needles jammed at the downspout outlet
- overflow in the first storm after a dry spell
- climbing a ladder to clean twice a year
- plants growing in the gutter
- old screens that let needles through
What we find — and what we do about it
Oak leaves and acorns
Large leaves sit on open gutters and jam the outlet. Covers or mesh keep them on top where the rain washes them off.
Pine needles
Needles slip through coarse screens and lodge upright. Finer mesh styles keep them out far better.
Spring pollen and seed pods
Oak catkins and pods turn to sludge in an open trough. A guard keeps most of it on the surface.
Gutters that still overflow
If a gutter with a guard still spills, the gutter or the downspout is too small for the roof — the guard was never the problem.
Which guard for which tree
The right guard depends on what lands on your roof, the pitch of the roof edge and the gutter it goes on. These are the three groups we choose between.
Fine mesh
A stainless or aluminum mesh over the trough. Stops pine needles and small debris; leaves and needles on top dry and blow or wash off.
Perforated covers
A rigid cover with holes or slots. Good under oaks with large leaves; needles can lodge in the openings.
Screens and inserts
Simpler and cheaper, but needles and small debris get through. Best where trees are light.
Guards are priced on the inspection, because the price depends on the guard, the length of roof edge and whether the gutter under it needs work first.

Gutter Guards FAQ
Are gutter guards a good idea?
Where oaks or pines overhang the roof, usually yes — they cut cleaning and keep the outlets open in a storm. On a roof with open sky above it, they matter less. We look at what actually lands in your gutters before suggesting them.
What are the best gutter guards for Florida?
The ones matched to your trees: fine mesh for pine needles, mesh or perforated covers for oak leaves. Any guard also needs a gutter and downspouts big enough for 2 to 4 inch storms, or it will overflow anyway.
Do gutter guards get clogged?
The gutter clogs far less, but leaves and needles can sit on top of the guard in a dry spell. They usually wash off in the next rain or brush off from a ladder.
How much do gutter guards cost?
We price guards on the inspection, because the cost depends on the guard type, the length of roof edge and whether the gutter under it needs repair first. The price is in writing before work starts.
Do I still need gutter cleaning with guards?
Less often, but yes — under heavy trees, a check once or twice a year. In our market a cleaning visit typically runs $150 to $300.
