Catch Basins & Channel Drains in Jacksonville
A grated basin in the low spot, or a channel drain across the driveway, tied to pipe that takes the water away.
Free yard inspection within 48 hours · written price before we dig
Where water collects in one spot — a low corner of the lawn, the bottom of the driveway, the edge of the pool deck — a catch basin or channel drain is the direct answer. The grate collects surface water fast during a downpour, a sump holds the grit, and solid pipe carries the water to an outlet.

- one low spot that becomes a pond
- water runs down the driveway toward the house

Catch Basins & Channel Drains FAQ
French drain vs catch basin: which do I need?
A catch basin takes water from one spot that ponds; a French drain collects a wet strip along its whole length. When the water stands in one low corner, a basin is the direct answer; when it follows a fence line or a side yard, a drain is.
French drain vs channel drain?
A channel drain is a grated slot set into a hard surface — the driveway apron or a pool deck — that catches water running across it. A French drain sits in the lawn. Driveways and lanais get channel drains; lawns get basins or French drains.
Can downspout drainage go into a catch basin?
Yes. A basin at the foot of a downspout collects the water, its sump holds the grit, and solid pipe carries the water on to a legal outlet.
Do the grates clog?
Leaves sit on top and are easy to clear; the sump catches sand below the outlet so the pipe stays clean.
Can a channel drain go into my pavers?
Yes — it is best done when the pavers are relaid, so the drain sits flush and the pavers slope to it.
